English food writer, chef and TV personality Nigella Lawson will be returning to Australia this year for a live evening show on May 21 at the State Theatre and a recently announced matinee show on the same day due to popular demand.

The interview-style show will be hosted by friend and fellow world-renowned chef, Matt Preston. Together they will explore cooking as a personal, intuitive, and connecting process through culinary insights and wisdom, in a personal and entertaining evening. Although considered a celebrity, Nigella wears modesty and humility unlike many others in the food industry; her charismatic and intelligent persona is comforting and relatable.

Lawson has become a household name in her unpretentious approach to cooking, providing accessible meals to people all over the world. Despite her success, Lawson is not a trained chef, she has learnt everything she knows from her mother and her own experiences in experimenting with food. Cooking can be simple, fast, fun, and personal. Food should be pleasurable in both creation and consumption. Lawson’s goal is to create homecooked meals that are ‘foolproof’ – composing, preparing and sharing simple recipes is her way of connecting with people.

By emphasising the importance of home cooked meals, encouraging people to cook from scratch and experiment with what they like, Lawson has made a significant impact on the culinary world. She focuses on the homeliness of comfort foods, hoping others find comfort in their own creation. She embraces global cuisines, drawing inspiration from other cultures, incorporating new flavours and techniques from around the world.

Against the current trend of Spartan diets, Lawson celebrates indulgence, promoting enjoyment, in moderation, of foods that are often shunned as unhealthy.

Lawson has a strong media presence, from hosting her own shows, Simply Nigella, Nigella: At My Table and Nigella’s Cook, Eat, Repeat, to guest appearances on MasterChef and My Kitchen Rules. She has written 13 cookbooks. Her second book, How to Be a Domestic Goddess, really shot her to fame, earning her the British Book Award for Author of the Year. Much of Lawson’s success is credited to the autobiographical and intimate feel that her television shows and books provide, each recipe and every story she shares provide a unique insight and snapshot into her life.
