SAVAGE IN LIMBO
Hitting a mid-life crisis in your early 30s is not exactly the ideal situation, but for a group of 32-year-old perennial losers it’s a call for desperate measures.
Set in the 1980s in a bar in Brooklyn, Savage in Limbo by John Patrick Shanley explores the challenges faced and connections formed by a group who find themselves stuck in the biggest rut of their lives.
Linda Savage, (hence the name) is a free-spirited sex symbol who wants to change her ways in order to hold onto her boyfriend, Tony. Tony is the Italian stud, who decides he wants to be taken seriously and will only sleep with, “intelligent ugly girls”. His bartender-friend Murc, and Denise and April who went to school with Linda also congregate at the bar.
Troy Harrison, the co-founder of Workhorse Theatre Co (previously That Pretty Pretty; Or, The Rape Play), and who plays the character of Tony says, “it’s a story about wanting more from life and what you’re willing to give up in order for you to do that”.
“The characters are beautiful, they’re all broken in some way. There’s always a part of life that people aren’t happy with but they keep going,” he says.
