Beatles Tribute: Rubber Soul & Revolver in Concert

Four of Australia’s strongest musical voices combine their powers this weekend to commemorate two of the most influential and highly praised albums of all time. The two albums, Rubber Soul and Revolver, both by The Beatles, were released 50 years ago now and to this day are still regarded as two of the greatest albums of all time. To celebrate the 50 year anniversary Husky Gawenda (Husky), Marlon Williams, Jordie Lane and Fergus Linacre (Kingswood) are coming together with a very brief but special tour.

Given the popularity and praise that is often heaped on these particular albums, it was a special but also nerve wracking moment for Husky when he was asked to be involved. “It’s definitely exciting to sing these songs with a big band behind us and in big venues, but it’s also big shoes to fill so we’ve got to make sure we get it right,” he said.

From an extremely early age the music of The Beatles has been a part of Husky’s life and was certainly a driving force in his chosen path into music. “The Beatles were some of the first music I listened to, my parents had a lot of their albums so I grew up listening to them…They were also some of the first songs I learnt and sang so they taught me a lot about all aspects of song writing and playing music,” he recalled warmly.

As has been the case for many, if not all musicians, The Beatles have been a reference for writing and playing pop music in general as they “wrote the book” while being so far ahead of the curve. Even to this day their songs remain relevant and still touch people emotionally, which is why the four artists are so excited to come together and perform the albums track for track and back to back.

“I think because they are two classic albums and there is going to be a lot of people coming who really know these albums, and to whom these albums mean a lot, we want to honour them and get the songs right,” said Husky when speaking about the lengthy preparation and perfection process for the show.

Performing in the esteemed Sydney Opera House is another exciting factor for Husky: “It’s one of the venues in the world that you want to play at some point in your life…and will certainly be something to check off the bucket list.’”
