Grammy Award-winning singer Rizo has quickly established herself as one of the festival world’s
favourite performers.

Last in Sydney for a sold-out season in 2018, Rizo returns in 2024 for a run of four dates at the
Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf 1 Theatre as part of the Sydney Festival.

The New York Times describes her as “A formidable belter who can sustain phrases and notes
even when sprawled on her back on a piano or scissoring her legs”.

“But it is really about the songs and that incredible voice” the Herald Sun wrote in reply.

Also known as Amelia Zinn-Brown, Rizo has contributed to albums by Moby and Yo-Yo Ma’s 2008
Christmas album Songs of Joy and Peace, which won a Grammy in 2010.

Rizo has also taken out a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, a Time Out London theatre
award and the 2013 London Cabaret Award.

While acknowledging that the inspiration for her soulful and theatrical interpretations of classical
pop songs come from performers as diverse as Piaf and Freddy Mercury, Rizo is at once her own
original creation.

Rizo will also be speaking at the Brett Whitely Studio Sessions at 7 pm Saturday 27 January.
