RICHARD MARTIN ART POP-UP GALLERY

RICHARD MARTIN ART POP-UP GALLERY

Colour and light will shine from the heart of the city this March as the MLC Centre plays host to a Richard Martin Art Pop-Up Gallery. Three artists, Craig Ruddy, Gordon Richards and Peter Hickey will feature in the space which is located on the 7th floor of the centre.

Ruddy is best known for winning the Archibald prize in 2004 for his portrait of David Gulpilil, whilst Hickey is a print maker who produces striking images of animals and landscapes.

Currently, Richards has several works beaming from the walls. The canvasses glow with luminescent pastel oranges and pinks. A figurative artist, his paintings juxtapose shapes and play with perspective to create vivid depictions of everyday objects.

Lurking in the corner of the bright space are sculptures by Julie Haseler Reilly which depict the female form in a variety of poses and attitudes.

The gallery represents an ideal opportunity for workers and visitors to the city to view contemporary Australian artists. Its opening hours cater for office-workers who can literally pop in and experience a unique visual display. (LR)
