Queens Of The Pub
Queens Of The Pub is an explosive new exhibition of photography and costuming by Gerard O’Connor and Marc Wasiak.
Portraying scenes from different eras, O’Connor and Wasiak force a modern day confrontation of the past through the intricate and precise costuming. The story told by each scene speaks to the wit, wantonness, chaos, and control of the exhibition.
The message of the project is to honour the queens of the pub, diversity, and recycling. The cast features people of diverse ages, backgrounds, gender, and sexual orientation.
Queens Of The Pub combines cinematic skills and the sensibilities of the 21st century to showcase overlooked pleasures of the past.
O’Connor and Wasiak are an award winning artist duo who have worked together for over 20 years and exhibited worldwide.
In 2016, they exhibited at XIX Encuentros Abiertos, Festival de la Luz, Argentina, one of the largest photographic festivals in the world. Their works are in multiple collections including the Ministerio de Cultura in Argentina and Government House in Canberra.
Wasiak said, “This is the future, the past, and the only way to be a queen. Wear your crown proudly even if it’s from the gutter.”
