This weekend – March 4 and 5 – the TAP Gallery is hosting an outdoor art fair in Taylor Square featuring over 200 artworks celebrating the queer character of the local area. The Pride Art Prize is being held in conjunction with Sydney WorldPride and takes place on the final two days of the festival.

Artists of all levels and media have been invited to participate and vie for a number of awards and prizes. A total pool of $3000 has been graciously donated by local businesses, with major sponsors including Prix Yves Hernot, who will also judge the competition; Mel W & Co (People’s Choice award), and Derivan Paints. Sponsors also include: Sax Fetish, PupnPussy, The Record Store, Plus Fitness, Lil’ Miss Piggy, High Heels, Dalymale, Dawn Blossom, Stonewall, The Bookshop Darlinghurst, Pieno, AussieBoys.

The theme for the Pride Art Prize is Inner City, Oxford St, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross and Surry Hills. Artists are encouraged to depict the historical and cultural relevance of these areas with possibilities ranging across well-known identities and unsung heroes, the nightlife and day-to-day living, Mardi Gras, art institutions, landmarks, urban icons and anything that captures the imagination.

The entry fee is $25/20 Concession. This includes a free canvas from TAP Gallery. Size must be 40 x 50cm (16″x20″) on unframed stretched canvas, (for easy hanging on the day) or supply your own, which must be of the same size.

All artworks need to be delivered to TAP Gallery for cataloguing and to be prepared for hanging by Wednesday 1st March. TAP Gallery is open every day 12-6pm.
