EXIBITION:PLATEAU CONSTRUCTIONS

by Komi Sellathurai

Mimi Tong is an up and coming Sydney-based artist and her latest exhibition Plateau Constructions experiments with the photographic medium. Exploring the abstraction that occurs while travelling through urban and rural spaces, Mimi juxtaposes bustling New York City with the stark emptiness of underpopulated Marfa, Texas. Working together with digital printing company, Think Positive, Mimi colludes the images of desert and urban landscapes on 25 meters of silk draped across the gallery to create a fluidity of movement experienced during those long, dreamy road trips. Exploring the long-standing relationship between architecture and land, Plateau Constructions leaves you in a dizzyingly beautiful state of movement as you walk through the suspended silk prints.
