Phantom of the Opera Heads to Sydney Harbour To Celebrate 40th Anniversary

Phantom of the Opera is set to return to Australia, coming to the stunning stage of Handa Opera in 2026 to celebrate the global sensation’s 40th anniversary.

Following the spectacular premiere in 2022, Sydney Harbour will welcomes the musical in March 2026.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera has encountered truly enormous success, having played to more than 160 million people in 205 cities around the world.

Some of Sydney’s most recognisable and stunning icons visible as a backdrop of Handa Opera will no doubt nourish the musical’s tale through the embellishment of love and devotion.

And while Phantom of the Opera celebrates its 40th birthday as it hits the stage in Sydney in 2026, Opera Australia will be celebrating their 70th anniversary.

Partnering with The Really Useful Group, together they embark on a historic celebration through Sydney’s embedded culture and taste for musical theatre.

There could be no more fitting backdrop than Sydney Harbour to begin our year of celebrations of one of the world’s most iconic musicals”.

“I’m thrilled Andrew Lloyd Webber has chosen Sydney to commence next year’s 40th anniversary celebrations of The Phantom of the Opera,” said NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper. “Staging an iconic production like Phantom in its milestone year, under the stars, on the water with the spectacular city skyline as the backdrop illustrates why Sydney is renowned as a global hub for cultural experiences.”

There will be fireworks and themed pop-up bars and restaurants at each show, to celebrate the ravishing delight of such an imperative global masterpiece returning to Sydney’s heart.

Phantom of the Opera officially arrives in Sydney on March 27 2026, with early access tickets available from Tuesday 5 August 2025, and is only available with any 2026 season subscription of two or more productions.

Priority presale access of single performance tickets being on August 26th, with general public admission tickets are available from September 2nd 2025.
