Opera Australia will continue its successful partnership with the NSW Government through Destination NSW, announcing today that next year’s Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour will present one of the most successful musical of all time, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, The Phantom Of The Opera.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour and Opera on Cockatoo Island are supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

This news comes as a much-needed breath of fresh air and will no doubt signify a new start for Sydney-siders after a turbulent 2021 – for obvious reasons that don’t warrant mention.

In keeping with the open-air, waterfront theme, OA also announced it will stage a new bespoke production of Bizet’s much-loved Carmen in the industrial surrounds of Cockatoo Island where private boats can book a mooring to watch the production – an experience like no other in the world.

Carmen on Cockatoo Island is an exciting new and innovative event that will capitalise on Sydney’s glorious weather and outdoor lifestyle when it premieres in November 2022.

If feeling adventurous, guests can also book one of the accommodation options on the island, and have an opera sleepover. Choose from the waterfront campsite with existing tents or opt for a few more creature comforts in one of the Heritage Holiday Houses or Harbour View Apartments.

With promises of sophistication and class that can only be experienced in our very iconic city; Sydney clears out the cobwebs and spreads her wings revealing a new and exciting future for arts and entertainment!
