NICK COYLE’S DOUBLE TRIBUTE

NICK COYLE’S DOUBLE TRIBUTE

Since we last saw Nick Coyle in the darkly imaginative Me Pregnant!, he has nabbed a SMAC award for Best on Stage and a Brisbane Powerhouse Award for Outstanding Comedy. We haven’t missed him too much, because we’ve been religiously tuning into his Sunday morning dose of dry oddities on FBi radio. But we’ll definitely be pleased to see his face again in his new comedy show, Double Tribute, even if the circumstances – a double fatality – are a little unfortunate. Answering a question that’s probably never been asked before, Double Tribute explores what happens when the person who wrote the tribute to their dead friend dies himself. Answer? Nick Coyle happens.

Hi Nick! What have you been up to since Me Pregnant!?
Pretty much just surfing the web. There’s so much to see!

How did the idea for Double Tribute come about?
I opened a Word document and then said: “idea idea idea idea idea idea idea” for about 15 minutes. Three weeks later I had the idea: do a fake tribute to a dead girlfriend.

When do you do your best writing?
When I’m full of fear. When it feels like I’m riding a panic attack. Panic attacks look like one of the flying dragons in Avatar, but they have your own face.

What is your current obsession?
My current obsession is Professor Blastoff, the Tig Notaro podcast. My eternal obsession is hunks.

And what is one line you hope audiences walk away from the night muttering?
“I have never seen an angel fly so low.”
