Newtown’s new cabaret venue

Popular Newtown music venue, the Vanguard, is set to become Sydney’s newest cabaret venue launching a new Cabaret La Creme season on Bastille Day, July 14.

And what more appropriate opening act than acclaimed Parisian chanteuse Caroline Nin who returns to Sydney to present Hymn à Piaf, a show that sold out seasons at the Sydney Opera House and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival two years ago?

Nin will perform 10 intimate shows at the Vanguard, reinvigorating the classic songs of Edith Piaf as she takes the audience on a journey through Piaf’s musical life and times.

The Paris-born femme fatale with a rich voice gives a captivating performance as she belts out Piaf favourites. Nin made her debut in the late ‘80s at The Hollywood Savoy, a swing and jazz venue where she gained a reputation for her renditions of the songs of Fitzgerald, Holiday, Vaughan and other jazz icons. She has performed at such well-known venues as London’s thriving Freedom Theatre in Soho and the Lido and Sunside in Paris.

Hymn à Piaf runs from July 14 to 25 at the Vanguard, 42 King Street, Newtown. Dinner from 7pm; show at 9pm. Book on 9020 6959 or www.thevanguard.com.au
