NATURAL DIGRESSION

NATURAL DIGRESSION

According to the curator Yolande Norris, what groups the seven cross-disciplinary artists in Natural Digression is their determination to, “unpick the primacy of scientific rationality in our contemporary understanding of the world, rather than … illustrate an ideal ‘truth’.” Natural evolution would also be a good term for it, as the pervasive tools the rational sciences are picked up and played with in an artistic forum that bridges sculpture (Kristen Farrell’s kaleidoscopic Exploded View, 2010), video (Erica Seccombe’s high-tech and micro-sized scientific imaging), craft (Al Munro’s rhizomatic needlepoint and beadwork) and drawing (Waratah Lahy’s charcoal explorations of an observation culture). All in all this is a restrained and clever collection that despite the diversity feels cohesive. Contact the gallery for more information on the panel discussion scheduled for April 4-8.
