Music and magic in the Runaway Gardens
The Runaway Gardens is running back to The Rocks, and will be at First Fleet Park from 16 August to 25 September bringing a host of entertainment for those who are sick of shivering under blankets and want to get out and do something exciting.
Many programs of this year’s Fringe Festival will take place here, including the marvellous Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent in which Marlene Dietrich is reputed to have once made an appearance. Enjoy a touch of Weimar decadence as you sit inside the tent enjoying its bevelled mirrors, its warm wooden surfaces and its exquisite stained glass windows.
Attend Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabaret, which is billed as “the darkest, funniest and most debauched kabarett show east of Berlin”, and Merrick Watt’s Idiot’s Guide to Wine, which is presented by a man described as an “idiot and an expert”.
Some of your favourite Australian artists are performing in the tent: Daryl Braithwaite, Kate Ceberano, Diesel, Renee Geyer, Richard Clapton, Ross Wilson and The Peaceniks, and The Black Sorrows.
Stay up late with multi-ARIA award nominated artists Odette and Jack Ladder, and get up early (ie before midday) for the Poof Doof Drag Brunch Club, which plies you with Mimosas in a show commencing at 12pm.
All I can say is WOW!
