An alcohol-free morning rave, founded in Aotearoa, New Zealand, is launching next month in Sydney’s very own Oxford Street.

Founded in 2016 by Jamie Newman, a New Zealand DJ and producer, Morning People are the hosts of the largest morning raves in the Southern Hemisphere, having hosted over 200 events to date. The raves begin at 6:30 am and end by 8:00 am, but attendees are welcome to drop in at their convenience, with raves feature crowded dance floors filled with regular clubbers and newcomers.

Morning People encourages everyone to join their morning dance parties, solo or with friends. The parties are often described as an inclusive, safe space to experience the full club experience.

“Morning People is about music, community, and pure fun – no booze, no hangovers, just the rush of a packed dancefloor first thing in the morning,” says Morning People’s Jamie Newman. “It’s the perfect way to flip your week on its head and start the day right.”

The company promotes a sense of community and fun without the use of alcohol, steering clear of potential distractions typically associated with nighttime events. “Didn’t know what to expect but everyone was smiling, dancing, and welcoming. Left in the best mood. Will be back for sure,” said an attendee.

Early morning energy boost

Local drag performer Jimi The Kween will be hosting the upcoming Sydney debut, promising to deliver on the expected grit and euphoria of Morning People.Their  experience can be traced from around the world, having shared stage moments with household names such as Diplo, Paris Hilton, Kylie Minogue, and Honey Dijon.

The event also welcomes a younger crowd of individuals between the ages of 13 and 17, provided their legal guardian accompanies them.

Attendees of the morning raves can enjoy complimentary refreshments, including coffee, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit, and gifts from event sponsors.

While the party is free, it is crucial that RSVPs are made, and due to the popularity of the events, only two tickets are available per order. Attire-wise, anything goes at the events, whether it’s trainers, gym gear, or something more casual.

Morning People will be held 5 November at the Oxford Art Factory.
