Mitski Returns To Australia With Exclusive Vivid Shows At Sydney Opera House
Indie icon and former sad girl Mitski will be returning to Australia with an exclusive four-night run at the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE in May.
The announcement comes just weeks before the release of her her eighth album Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, dropping on Friday February 27, and is part of a mega fleet of shows in major cities across the world, including New York City and Paris.
It’s Mitski’s Sydney Opera House debut, with shows from Friday, May 29 to Monday, June 1, and marks her first Australian performances since 2019. With her trademark intimate, gut-wrenching lyricism and visceral theatricality, a performance by the harbour in the middle of winter sounds like an ideal place to experience this artist live.
“There are artists who have successful careers, and there are artists who profoundly change people’s lives — the utterly brilliant Mitski does both. Years in the making, it’s a dream come true to welcome this internationally revered, generation-defining artist to Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House for four Australian exclusive performances,” said. Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music and Vivid LIVE Curator, Ben Marshall.
“In the seven long years since her last visit to our shores, Mitski has emerged as an uncompromising artist of extraordinary calibre, creating performances for huge audiences that are at once fiercely emotional and breathtakingly theatrical. Her choice to perform here – in a building devoted to the transformative power of art – is a true privilege.”
Her recent collaborations include two co-writing credits on Florence and the Machine’s latest album, Everybody Scream, as well as work with David Byrne and Son Lux on the Oscar-nominated This Is A Life
These are the only shows Miski will be performing in Australia, blessing us with some of the first live performances of her new album in the world, alongside some standouts from her previous 14 years of work, but you cannot deny it would be worth travelling across the country just to catch her before she disappears for another few years.
Artist pre-sale tickets are available from 10am on Wednesday, February 11, with tickets for public sale from 10am on Friday, February 13. Head to the Sydney Opera House website for more information.
