LUKE HOWARD TRIO – A DOVE, A LION, A COAST, A PIRATE

With a title that’s as ambiguously mesmerising as its sound, The Luke Howard Trio’s latest offering contains compositions so eloquently beautiful and captivating, you would assume a great deal of contemplation resulted in the creation of A Dove, A Lion, A Coast, A Pirate.

“It was a very spur of the moment idea,” refutes trio leader Luke Howard. “We only decided we were going to record two months beforehand, plus we had only rehearsed for a few days before actually recording. It was an interesting way to go about it.”

Recorded in Rainbow Studios in Oslo, Norway, with renowned Jazz sound engineer Jan Erik Kongshaugs; Howard says it’s a combination of the old and the new. “Sharing the writing between us did make it easier to write new songs, but I looked through my old notes from Uni to see if there was anything we could build on.”

Convinced that only his family and friends will buy the album, Howard adds humbly that he hopes others that hear it will appreciate it simplicity, “I think they are just a bunch of concise statements that will hopefully make people feel something.” (CD)
