Letter to the Editor: Spin Cycle

Stephen Falcron is right (Letters, Sydney City News, February 3). Politicians are like mice: they appear when necessary looking for tidbits on which they can feast. Because they have no legislated office hours, work performance contracts or duties, many double-dip with other jobs, a convenient truth.

Clover Moore is both MP and Lord Mayor, a situation banned in UK.

Claims she “holds and attends community meetings” (“QandA with candidates to take on Clover”, February 3) are misleading. She has never called a community meeting in her capacity as MP to our knowledge in this area in living memory. Last year she cancelled, without any notice or explanation, all community meetings in our area run by council: we’re left to make a brief three-minute presentation on important new LEPs, heritage laws and escalating crime/drugs in Kings Cross at council.

She further states “I don’t toe a party line … [or] represent vested interests” but forgets she’s formed her own party, The Clover Moore Team of community independents, whose raison d’être seems to demand independence from the community. Her’s is a registered polticial party which fails to adequately disclose its financial contributions from the big end of town, an inconvenient truth.
