King, the internationally acclaimed production that sold out houses and had critics and audiences raving returns to Sydney for WorldPride. Presented by Shaun Parker and Company and featuring celebrated Bulgarian born musician and performance artist, Ivo Dimchev, King  is a theatrical experience unlike any other.

Parker is an award-winning choreographer and director who likes to walk the edge of creative invention. His inspiration for creating King was the evolving status and definition of “male” and varied discussions around gender.

King is set in an undefined world, somewhere between a formal cocktail lounge and the lush jungle of a lost island. It is a surreal, adult, male-revue styled Lord of the Flies with a disparate group of men vying for dominance or survival.

Combining precision group choreography with elegant ballet-style individual movement and stark physical theatre, King’s brutal story is underscored with the delicate, soulful music and voice of Dimchev.

Seductive and confronting, it celebrates the male body while interrogating machismo. It looks at facade and revelation in literal terms, with dancers variously transitioning from fully attired in formal suit and bow tie to complete nudity.

This is thrilling theatre, fast, intense, unabashed and it’s on for a very limited season.
