There is music and then there is soul nourishing, enchanting and harmoniously breathtaking music. Katie Noonan has blessed us once again with the latter. Her new album, Songbook, is a magical re-imagination of a collection of songs from her entire back catalogue.
Through Songbook, her pieces are presented in a stripped back form, with Katie on piano accompanied by the beautiful strings of sisters Sarah and Monica Curro on the majority of songs. The pieces included on the album are snapshots taken from Katie’s journey throughout her music career and life from a young feminist, to a wife and then a mother.
“Choosing the songs and recording the album was a bit like stepping back in time,” said Katie. “Like the way people talk of that moment when you die, and you might float up into the sky and look back down at your life,” she laughs.
Recently returned from a solo tour of Canada and America, she is now touring Australia with Songbook. You can see her at the Basement for the Songbook album launch on Saturday April 13th.
