ISOLATIONS – DAVID KNIGHT

ISOLATIONS – DAVID KNIGHT
Image: 'Isolations' by David Knight

Like blurred images in a fog, the lone figures of David Knight’s Isolations emerge and fade into the shadows. However, although the photographs are indistinct, the titles are clear, Void, Stifle, The Stranger, Shroud – they are words of alienation.

Knight is of English background and is married to a lady of Indian descent. He draws upon his personal experience of estrangement and racism to produce works of social relevance.

In Isolations, the artist utilises the ubiquitous hoodie as a metaphor to produce pictures of ethereal beauty. The simple item becomes a Madonna-like veil surrounded by smudged white mist in Follower and a symbol of desolation and comfort in the red splodge of Cast Off.

Isolations is a stroll through the mind of modern society. It is a reflection of the confusion, yearning and resilience of humanity in a world dominated by hate, fear and xenophobia. (LR)
