IDENTITY THIEF

Jason Bateman has made something of a name for himself as the straight-man ever since the critically acclaimed T.V. series Arrested Development. Teamed with zany Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) and topping the box office charts in America earlier this year, this movie should have a lot going for it. The title doesn’t exactly suggest a road movie, but this is essentially what Identity Thief is. Sandy Patterson’s identity has been stolen, and for some reason the police can’t do anything so Sandy determines he will track the thief down on the other side of the country, bring her back and trick her into confessing the crime to police. A journey of self-discovery ensues for both characters, featuring occasional moments of poignancy, but precious few moments of laughter. (CC)
