Henry Rollins walks on stage, and without preamble, dumps two and a half hours of scintillating dialogue at breakneck speed. At sixty two years old, his passion and seemingly endless energy and desire to deliver engaging storytelling is enviable.
He is earnest in his delivery yet hilarious in his understanding of the farcical nature of situations he’s been involved in throughout the pandemic.
Rollins left audiences at Sydney’s State Theatre staggered last night in what was one enormous stream of consciousness mic drop moment.
Throughout the performance, Rollins effortlessly held the full-house audience attention, captivating them with his unique style and magnetic presence. His comedic timing was impeccable, delivering an array of hilarious anecdotes entertaining the crowd. But what truly set Rollins apart was his ability to embody humility, vulnerability, and truthfulness, becoming a shining example of a masculine role model.
Rollins fearlessly peeled back the layers of aggression and superficial masculinity that often mask the true essence of many men. He shared personal stories of his difficult upbringing, the loss of his parents, and the experience of being stalked by a mentally ill Finnish man who went to great lengths to break into his home during the pandemic shutdowns. Each narrative was relayed with earnestness, yet woven with unbelievable comical farce and wit.
He is unique, refreshing and evergreen and is doing something that no one else is; and at sixty two years of age, it is very very impressive.
