This is an unassuming 111-seat theatre tucked into a side-street a short walk from the main bustle of Kings Cross. What it lacks in size in makes up for in exuberance. The Hayes Theatre has established itself as the venue for musical theatre and cabaret, and it has produced many shows that have gone on to play bigger venues including Sydney Opera House.

The Hayes occupies a space within the Reginald Murphy Hall previously occupied by Darlinghurst Theatre Company before they moved to Eternity Playhouse. It became the Hayes Theatre in 2012, named after Australian legend of the stage, Nancye Hayes AM.

The very first production put on by the Hayes was Sweet Charity which was so successful it went on to be staged at the Sydney Opera House.
