Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have concluded a four-day visit to Australia, which included speaking to survivors and emergency responders from the Bondi Beach shooting.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Bondi Beach during the Sydney leg of the trip, where they met volunteer lifeguards and community leaders met the couple at the beach in Sydney where 15 people were killed and 40 injured at a Hannukah event in December. The couple spoke with Jessica Chapnik Kahn, who survived the December attack while shielding her five-year-old daughter, who said that it was an “honour” to meet them.

“The greater problem in the world right now is hate,” she said. “Hate is a human problem that we’re facing, a very big problem.

Survivor Elon Zizer, who was shot six times and his mother three times, said: “It’s an honour to meet the Duke and Duchess. It’s very beautiful that they’ve come and are making an effort to meet us.”

Lifeguard and first responder Jonathan Pott was also there, and said that “It means a lot that they’ve taken time out of their pretty brief visit to Australia to visit the site and meet with some of the people that were involved and a lot of the people that were affected.”

The couple later travelled to the Sydney Opera House, where they greeted members of the public and took part in a harbour sailing event.

Additional Sydney engagements included meetings with local families, veterans and representatives of the Sydney Jewish Museum, as well as attendance at a rugby match.

The visit formed part of a broader itinerary that included Melbourne, where the couple visited the Royal Children’s Hospital and participated in mental health and community events.

Prince Harry also took part in a Q&A during the tour, drawing on his experiences with parenting and mental health advocacy.

The couple concluded the visit in Sydney, marking the final stage of their Australian itinerary before returning to the United States.
