GREAT FALLS

A minimalist stage, two actors and no intermission can make for a sub-par theatre outing. Not so with the Ensemble Theatre’s newest offering Great Falls, which tells the story of an ex-stepfather and his ex-stepdaughter taking a rather unconventional road trip through America.

A brilliant play that’s at once confronting, entertaining and thought-provoking, it is an unexpected masterpiece. Actors Christopher Stollery and Erica Lovell bring to life two characters who are as unlikeable as they are lovable. Awkward moments are shared, intimate secrets are revealed, teenage tantrums are thrown, while the audience remains captivated throughout.

Written by Lee Bessing and directed by Ensemble Theatre’s Associate Director Anna Crawford, it raises issues that will stay with you long after the final applause, when you find yourself telling people three little words: see this play.

Until Mar 9, Ensemble Theatre, 78 McDougall St, Kirribilli, $30-62, 9929 0644, ensemble.com.au
