FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL: The Day I Saw Your Heart

Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) plays Justine, an unconventional woman who lives out her life in a state of perpetual adolescence. She sleeps on her married sister’s sofa and barely holds down her day job, while dreaming of being an artist. Growing up, Justine’s father was a remote figure, so she is appalled to discover his latest wife is pregnant. This becomes a catalyst for a personal journey en route to rediscovering her father and finding herself. A light-hearted comedy with some warm moments, but the film doesn’t pack the emotional punch French cinema is known for. (RF) **1/2
