A good flamenco performance can set the heart galloping along with the dance, and some of that elegant, eloquent stomping is coming to Sydney via Authentic Flamenco, a thrilling show featuring pre-eminent dancers and musicians.

Teatro Real de Madrid (the Royal Opera of Madrid) started touring the show last year, and now travels the world with its award-winning performers, including dancers Paula Rodriguez and José Escarpín, singers Jonathan Reyes and José de Calli, and musicians Antonio Jiménez (guitar) and Juan Amaya Amador El Cafelito (percussion). The Sydney performances are an Australian first, and come after appearances in Dubai, Singapore and South Korea.

“Promoting and developing such an ambitious project is a duty not only to the performing arts but also to audiences around the world,” said Ignacio García-Belenguer, CEO of Teatro Real.

Flamenco, with its thrilling rhythm and fiery expression, is central to the opera company’s desire to broaden its appeal both worldwide and in Spain, where the dance is regularly performed at the company’s home venue.

“Bringing such a genuine and unique art form to such different places is an achievement for the Teatro Real as a result of its commitment to cultural heritage,” said García-Belenguer.
