The Fantastic Film Festival Australia returns for its 4th edition with a program of 27 of the wackiest, most unconventional and daring films from all around the world.

Enthusiasts of alternate and weird cinema should be delighted to learn that this year’s program is the most bizarre curated to date.

“How a movie needs to be fantastic changes, expands and grows upon each year and needs to be something like I’ve never seen before or is going to make the audience go, what the hell was that!” explained festival director, Hudson Sowada. “It also has to provide a unique and exciting experience. This is absolutely our wackiest festival ever!”

The aim of this film festival is not to screen films which have high production values or that would do well as mainstream releases, but more aptly to present films which are fun, wild, vivid and creative.

“None of these films will make audiences ask, ‘What was that trash?’ and even if the movie is trash it owns that on its sleeve, it has a blast doing it and audiences will go on that journey of madness together.”

An Untitled and Perfectly-Legal Coming-Of-Age Parody Film is a controversial film which will give audiences a chance to be amongst the few people in the world to see it. “This is a loose title as we can’t legally call the film by its original name due to some outstanding legal issues. It’s a trans coming of age comedy. The filmmaker will be in attendance for a Q&A on this film which you may never get to see anywhere else.”

POLITE SOCIETY. Image: film still

The opening night film Polite Society is a high octane martial art heist comedy flick heralded as the UK’s answer to Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.

The closing night film Lion-Girl is a post-apocalyptic Japanese sci-fi film in which monsters suck the soul out of humans. “In this reality people don’t wear many clothes so there are these mutant type aliens shooting ray guns at nipples and people decapitating robot  cyborgs. This cinematic carnage is bonkers! ”laughed Sowada.

This film festival is for audiences who are curious, enjoy taking risks and who are sick of the current mainstream movies on offer.

“There’s nothing in this festival that will have you walk away and think that was a waste of money. It’s going to be something that challenges you to go on the wilder and bolder side of cinema. Whatever cinematic taste you have there’s something to fill your cinematic itch that you need scratched!”concluded Sowada.

HOT PICKS

BEATEN TO DEATH – This movie kicks so much arse! Violence galore in this movie where a man has his eye balls gauged out and runs around blind trying to survive as he is constantly beaten. Warning – not for the squeamish!!

HOLY SHIT! – A man wakes upside down in a port-a-loo. That’s the least of his worries as the port-a-loo is on a site packed with explosives! A totally grossed out comedy thriller.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES STINK-O-VISION – A totally unconventional world first scratch and sniff screening. Experience this scent-sational film that takes audiences through the sewers of New York City.
