EXPOSED

EXPOSED

It’s fitting that the Latin root for ‘expose’ is to ‘set forth in words.’ In (our own!) Chris Peken’s upcoming photographic exhibition Exposed, his lens has been firmly fixed on Sydney’s leading luminaries of the spoken word circuit. Says Peken, “The spoken word artist is perhaps one of the least acknowledged yet bravest of artists and I wanted to do something to change that…”

In a series of 13 striking monochromatic portraits, subjects like Bravo Child, Angela Stretch, Morganics, and Tug Dumbly, have proven they’ve got nothing left to hide, and only their words to protect them. Haunting phrases like, ‘I hold her soul in the circle of my arms,’ (Alan Pham) are ‘tattooed’ in texta onto bare flesh; the artists become a living embodiment of all they believe in.

Make sure you head along on opening night, Friday May 11, to catch performances by some of the subject matter: Benito Di Fonzo, Candy Royalle, Skye Loneregan and Miles Merrill. (AB)
