EXHIBITION: JOHN ASLANIDIS – SONIC NETWORK NO. 3

EXHIBITION: JOHN ASLANIDIS – SONIC NETWORK NO. 3

See what you hear and hear what you see.

Preferring to call himself a sound artist rather than a painter, John Aslanidis’ work explores geometric abstraction and synaesthesia. His current exhibition, Sonic Network No.3, features a selection of large-scale paintings with optical pulsations, and continues his ongoing exploration of how the languages of sound and sight intersect.

The Melbourne-based artist has exhibited internationally and nationally for almost two decades. His paintings were included in the landmark exhibition Good Vibrations: The Legacy of Op-Art in Australia at the Heide Museum of Modern Art, and this is his second solo show at Gallery 9.

To experience synaesthesia is to have sensations of colour and texture simultaneously with perceived sound, or vice versa. They say it’s something we’re more in touch with as children, but we unlearn it. So head over to Darlinghurst and relearn the intersections between aural and visual zones.
