EXHIBITION: BEYOND VISIBILITY

EXHIBITION: BEYOND VISIBILITY

With only a few precious months left in the Year of Astronomy, there’s no better time to turn your gaze to the heavens and get cosmic. Among the plethora of astronomical activities on offer around Sydney at the moment is Beyond Visibility, a collection of space-related works at the UTS Gallery. The mix of Aboriginal depictions of the night skies and highly detailed, large format, true colour photographs of astronomical events, some spanning thousands of years, makes for a robust journey through our depictions of the normally unseen and often unimaginable. What the exhibition lacks in size, it makes up for in grandeur and the stargazers out there will find it well worth the cosmic trip. David Malin’s astro-photographs are particularly mesmerising. Passing up paints and brushes, Malin constructs them using ancient light, time and space itself to produce images so dazzling they will have even the most Earthbound of us musing on metaphysics and studying the stars.

Until Oct 9, UTS Gallery, Level 4, 702 Harris St, utsgallery.uts.edu.au
