With the sound of drums, the thunder of guns, and the face-melting licks of electric guitars, the AC/DC Family Jewels exhibition, hosted in Sydney by the Powerhouse Museum, offers a retrospective look one of the biggest Aussie bands to stride the globe. The exhibition itself not only tracks the histories and inspirations of the band, but showcases the huge array of media attention the band has garnered since their first, electric inception. Indie fliers, concert bills, album posters, even pieces of costuming and equipment, plaster the museum walls – making an emphatic exclamation mark on just how prominent AC/DC’s existence has been on the music industry. Also included amongst the diaries, letters and rare photography are the precious clips of the band in performance – from their heyday in the basements of Melbourne, to their sold out shows during their recent Black Ice tour. And whilst fans will drool over the Acka-demia sprinkled about the exhibition halls, the most treasured component to this showcase is undoubtedly the presence of the band, which hangs in the air amongst the unforgettable riffs – their cheek and party-hardy nature underlined in the bold black of their professional outlook towards performance.
