ENCODED

ENCODED

Encoded is a large-scale immersive and interactive aerial dance installation and performance by Stalker Theatre looking at how humans negotiate spaces.

“It’s a reflection on the fragility of the human imagination and cultural perception of space and how our identity in the world around us has changed,” says Stalker’s artistic director and director of Encoded, David Clarkson.

“It’s a journey through the evolution of how we imagine spaces from pre-history to Virtual Space.  We view spaces as constructed, intimate universes and they can become either heaven or hell in a way.”

Encoded asks, “what cultural meaning, both good and bad, will we bring to the new construct of a digital future?”

The production uses interactive technology to create a projected 3D digital environment responsive to performer’s movements. It features the work of digital artists Andrew Johnston, Alejandro Rolandi and Sam Clarkson together with the choreography of Paul Selwyn Norton.

Including fluid simulations triggered by the infra-red tracking of the dancers and aerialists, the production creates a space where technology and the body meet, which is both spectacular and intimate.
