It is something to behold, almost spiritual. A massive outdoor banquet comprising hundreds, sometimes thousands of people all dressed head-to-foot in pristine white. Crisp white tablecloths, white dinnerware, and the soft white noise of strangers getting to know each other.

Le Dîner En Blanc is a worldwide phenomena that began virtually by chance. In 1988  François Pasquier organised an outdoor dinner in the Bois de Boulogne, a large public park in Paris, France. He invited a group of friends and instructed them to dress nicely and completely in white so they’d be able to find each other.

It was quite a spectacle and it inspired a repeat event and then another, until it became an annual ticketed event. Today there are “white dinners” all over the globe with thousands in attendance.

The first Dîner En Blanc in Sydney was held in 2012 in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) at Circular Quay. It was a stunning sight and quite possibly very confusing for any sea gulls that were looking on.

This year will be particularly special, being the 10th anniversary of the Sydney edition and, of course, the return of the event after having to skip the last two years.

If you’re wondering where the event is going to be held, well, so is everybody else. The exact location is kept a closely guarded secret. Guests are only provided with a rendezvous point prior to the event. On the night, the assembled guests are taken to the secret dining location.

Saturday, November 12
