DECEPTION

Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) is a lonely auditor with no social life until charismatic lawyer Wyatt Bose (High Jackman) provides his entrée into ‘The List’ ‘ a sex club for overworked corporate elites. With a phone number and a simple question – ‘Are you free tonight” – Manhattan’s rich and powerful can indulge their fantasies without strings – ‘intimacy without intricacy’. It’s all fun and games until a night with a woman known only as ‘S’ (Michelle Williams) draws him into a scheme involving betrayal, blackmail and murder. Deception is a stylish-looking sex-thriller with a titillating (if barely believable) glimpse of a foreign world, but the plot is as flimsy as a see-through nighty. Still, that’s probably not the point. Tuesday night or DVD.
