DAMIEN LASARATION – THE BLOODY FAIRY ALBUMIN

The Bloody Fairy Albumin is a compilation of experimental musical noise written and produced by Sydney artist, Damien Lasaration. In the final track, Demerging Artist Departed, the album is self-reflexively dubbed “concept music”, which is an apt description for an album almost entirely void of voices and melody. Most tracks comprise of clashing, drowsy-sounding layers strung together with a vaguely melodic bass line. Abstract, intergalactic sounds find a comfortable home on Lasaration’s 16-track album, as do spoken-word tracks, ambient fillers and static sounds. Admittedly tracks are varied enough to retain some interest, but fewer tracks, a little more melody and a little less self-indulgence wouldn’t go astray. (KD)
