GIG: CW STONEKING

by Mikie Inglis

CW Stoneking is a songwriter and performer seemingly transported to us from another era. The Melbournite’s 2006 album, King Hokum, was as authentic a slice of southern dust-bowl blues as you are likely to hear this side of the 1930’s, let alone America. His critically acclaimed 2008 release, Jungle Blues, saw equal parts Calypso, Honky Tonk, and Cajun blues mixed with a fair dose of voodoo, and peppered lyrically with the love of a good yarn.

Touring the album nationally for the second time, Stoneking will be joined onstage at the Enmore Theatre by his Primitive Horn Orchestra for another ramshackle Sydney performance. Brooklyn based singer songwriter Mamie Minch provides the support, with her own brand of vintage blues and country. Time to get your mojo workin’!

March 20. Enmore Theatre, 118-132 Enmore Road, Newtown.$40, 13 28 49 or www.enmoretheatre.com.au
