Christine Webb Unveils Newest Exhibition
The use of colour can often be the downfall of an artist’s work, particularly in still life. With a limited colour palette, evoking a sense of life and space in the environments around us can be a gargantuan task that leads to unsatisfying results. Christine Webb’s newest exhibition is an unabashedly vibrant series of works that show colour as something to be played with without fear.
Inspired by the likes of Elizabeth Cummings, who she describes as “the master of masters” when it comes to using colour, Webb has been intensely focused on completing her paintings for the past six months.
“I’m working in interiors and interior still life, where I am interrogating the space and the feel of the place around me. I am trying to make something that intrigues me and still uses a great deal of colour,” Webb explains.
Graduating from the Sydney University’s College of Arts, Webb has been able to help provide for her family as a full-time artist and by teaching one day workshops in colour theory between her homes in Italy and Australia. Webb’s works are a bold and fascinating exploration of colour, space and light. (MB)
