Casey Donovan is a very proud woman. Proud of her queer identity. Proud of her Gumbaynggir and Dungari ancestors. Proud to be using the incredible gift she has to spread love and hope through song.

Donovan also now proudly calls herself a Rainbow Champion.

“I was honoured with the Rainbow Champion medallion, and I think that’s really beautiful,” says Donovan. “I identify as someone who lives life to the fullest and loves even harder.”

The eighteen years in which Donovan has been in the public eye have been filled with thorns and petals, but she has ultimately come through with a strength, vitality, and aura that has raised her from pop idol to formidable legend. It’s that’s the reason why she’ll be on stage at the opening concert for Sydney WorldPride, co-hosting with Courtney Act.

“I’m super excited,” says Donovan about the event. “Sydney WorldPride is an amazing coming together of community…I think it’s a great celebration of being unapologetically yourself and celebrating alongside your friends and peers and allies.”

Donovan will also be one of the highlights of Blak & Deadly: The First Nations Gala Concert at Sydney Opera House.

“Which is going to be such a special night and so many amazing performers…And I think it’s very important for our First Nations mob to have a night of nights and just celebrate in love and all things that glitter. And we get to do that at the Opera House!”
