Built between 1880 and 1889 the site holds lots of history, thousands of people worked on the site by the 1900s building and maintain the rail works, working to develop the city for over 100 years. The workshops were one of the first sites to employ Aboriginal People and migrants on an equal basis, an act impressively well ahead of its time. In accordance with its advocacy for diversity the site was redeveloped into a cultural precinct in 2007.
