BORN TO BE WILD

BORN TO BE WILD

If you’ve ever wanted to join orangutans in the jungle of Borneo, or come close to elephants in a Kenyan Savannah, then get yourself to IMAX Darling Harbour pronto. Born to be Wild is the latest 3D IMAX extravaganza, and the cinematography is so spectacular it feels as though you are actually with the animals in their natural habitat. This 40-minute documentary is an inspiring and heartfelt story told by the dulcet tones of Academy Award-winning Morgan Freeman (also narrator of the fantastic March of the Penguins). The clever editing switches between two orphanages run by the remarkable Daphne Sheldrick (elephants) and Birute Galdikas (orangutans) who believe orphans should never become pets. The animals need love but once they’re old enough they will be released back in to the wild. This film will have you at the edge of your seat within minutes, and you’ll be reaching out to pet swinging monkeys or swipe away bugs. The only questionable thing about this film is: out of a baby orangutan and baby elephant, which is the cutest? (ES) ****1/2
