Audiences seemed extremely satisfied on Saturday Night at the Qudos Arena with the arena spectacular Bat Out Of Hell: The Rock Musical, with many justifiably giving it a standing ovation once the performance came to an end.

The rock musical with music, lyrics and book by Jim Steinman is based on the Bat Out Of Hell album by Meat Loaf and is loosely the reimaging of Peter Pan but set in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan.

The story centres on a young couple who meet, fall in love, and want to be together but whose relationship is threatened owing to the girl’s overprotective father who ultimately disrupts the family unit.

With over 20 performers on stage and a live band, audiences were smitten by the production which included popular songs: “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad”, “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All”, “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I won’t Do That)” and “Bat Out Of Hell”.

A fresh young cast headed this ambitious one-night-only show, with songs and dancing sequences that not only electrified audiences with their raw energy and talent, but also transported them into another world of youth, passion and rebellion.

A unique feature of this production was the placement of a camera person who filmed all the dramatic scenes on stage allowing audiences to view them on the big screens, evoking a campy and soapy feel to the story.

This show which was pushed back several times over the past few years owing to Covid-19 was a near sell-out event and the majority of the audience was in the  ‘much older’ demographics – the fanbase of Meatloaf – who most probably bought the album when it was first released all those years ago in 1977.

After a successful performance in Sydney the best ever tribute to Meat Loaf production moves to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth.
