Australian Rock Legends To Farewell Leichhardt Oval With Free Concert

Iconic Australian rock bands The Angels and The Superjesus are set to headline “One Last Roar,” a community farewell concert at Leichhardt Oval. The free, all-ages event, to be held on Saturday, 19 September from 1pm, is the Inner West Council’s way of paying tribute to the community who have long called the historic venue home.

“The free concert is Council’s way of saying thanks to our community who have fought to save this iconic ground for decades,” said Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne. “There’s no place like Leichhardt Oval, and our community knows that, and we have secured  funding to upgrade this iconic ground for athletes and fans of men’s and women’s football, rugby league and rugby union.

What To Expect At Leichhardt Oval’s Last (And Unprecedented) Roar

The concert will mark the first major live music event ever held on the oval’s playing surface ahead of its closure and redevelopment. Attendees can expect rugby league legend Wayne Pearce to take the stage as part of Oz Icons, alongside plenty of other live entertainers, food stalls, and family activities. Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) is even slated to bring a pop-up wrestling ring to the oval.

Though the event is cost free, attendees are asked to purchase tickets through the council’s website.

“The crowd at Leichhardt Oval is always rocking,” said Major Byrne, “but this will be the first time there’s been rock and roll on the field. We’re expecting this to be a party not to be missed as we toast the past and look forward to an exciting new chapter.”

Following the concert, the oval will undergo an impressive $40 million upgrade. This will include a major upgrade to the Western grandstand to include new changerooms, seating, and corporate and hospitality facilities, as well as a replacement of the entire lower seating bowl with modern stadium seating.
