AUDI FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILMS

AUDI FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILMS

Berlin has worked hard to get where she is. After years of combing her hair into a quiff and impressing the cool kids with her witty conversation, she’s finally the Queen of Europe – a hot spot whose name everybody loves to drop – and one jewel in her crown this year is the Audi Festival of German Films.

This increasingly popular annual event illustrates the rich diversity of contemporary German cinema, with over 150 screenings being held in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane from mid-April.

Included in the programme are screenings of The Baader Meinhof Complex, nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Oscars®, as well as an amazing retrospective of seldom seen features from the former German Democratic Republic, including director Frank Beyer’s Jacob the Liar, Traces of Stone and Carbide and Sorel, plus East Germany’s only explicitly gay film, Coming Out.

Guests from Deutschland include acclaimed director Marco Kreuzpaintner and Der Spiegel journalist and author, Christian Buss. The festival runs in Sydney from April 15-26 at Chauvel Cinema and Palace Norton Street. For the full program see www.goethe.de
