Tucked away, on a back street of Woolloomooloo, The Old Fitz is the way a pub should be, full of culture, vibrancy, panache and style.

Downstairs, this new Australian play explores the destructive nature of victimhood, the phenomena of when someone starts to identify as a victim. One character born to a teenage mother, rediscovered later in life, holds her parents responsible and seeks salvation through various therapies.

Couple Nathan and Fiona’s relationship, after a whirlwind romance as teenagers, turns to disappointment and bewilderment.

Touching on the vexing and sensitive issues of child abuse and domestic violence, Robert Allen should be applauded for bringing these issues to the stage. Audiences will relate to the idea of emotional and psychological baggage from childhood wearing us down.

An Ordinary Person is a well-written, well-constructed play, deserving of a wide audience.

Arrive early to enjoy a Laksa and the ambience of the bistro before the show. (VP)
