The team from Come You Spirits are proving that theatre, and in particular, Shakespeare, can be enjoyed anywhere. After their phenomenal season last year with outdoor performances in the Haven Amphitheatre, Castlecrag, this intrepid troupe of actors is returning with a new program and more adventurous locations.

Jo Bloom, Alec Ebert, Sontaan Hopson, Charles Mayer & Ciarán O’Riordan are the spirited thespians who play multiple characters in a selection of the Bard’s finest. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, Romeo & Juliet, and Macbeth will be rotated through a program that plays in a variety of unique venues.

Their own “Globe Theatre” is the natural, lush green surrounds of Haven Amphitheatre where they will begin and end the season. Next on the itinerary is a series of sunset shows on the Southern Swan Tall Ship sailing through Sydney Harbour. It will be unlike any performance you’ve experienced.

For those who prefer a steady floor, an evening show at Hickson House Distillery might be a better option (though there may still be some swaying). If you like Shakespeare with sunshine, then the daytime shows in Cooper Park Reserve Woollahra will accommodate you.

Come You Spirits then heads up to Byron Bay for series of performances. As a spiritual centre, Byron is a no-brainer for this troupe, whose unique performance work also involves elements of sound healing through the music of Brandon Read.

Read’s original soundscape uses ancient and universal principles of therapeutic sound that promotes physical and emotional well-being.
