ABBAWORLD

ABBAWORLD

Australia was one of the first countries in the world to embrace ABBA, and remains the largest international market for the Swedish super-group. This touring exhibition aims to reward the loyalty of long-time fans, as well as the Mamma Mia generation. The memorabilia on display is impressive – from original costumes to a recording studio mock-up. Video interviews with the band, producers, designers and fans bring to life the hysteria surrounding ABBA’s 1977 tour of Australia. There are some quirky interactive elements– quizzes, photo-booths and even a stage where you can perform alongside an animated ABBA. Trying to line up the family-friendly fun with a detailed retrospective of ABBA’s impact on popular culture means that neither element is entirely successful. That said, this exhibition is too hugely enjoyable and not taken too seriously. A great way to say thank you for the music – you’ll have Dancing Queen stuck in your head for days.
