A.C. NEWMAN – SHUT DOWN THE STREETS
The indie-rock veteran releases his third solo record Shut Down The Streets, a mature extension of the pop stylings he’s contributed to his group The New Pornographers and more for the last 20-odd years. The record’s got all the indie-pop album devices: the sprawling guitar work, introspective lyrics and hooky melodies and while Newman is clearly a master of the craft, the impression of the album is that there’s something lacking – originality unfortunately – as it feels he’s tracing paths that The Shins, Arcade Fire and even The New Pornographers have charted with excellent results in recent times.
