Man Accused Of Stealing Camera Equipment From Deceased Bondi Attack Victim

A Sydney photographer has been charged after allegedly stealing camera equipment belonging to a victim of the Bondi Beach terror attack and pawning it days later.

NSW Police allege the 35-year-old man attended the Hanukkah by the Sea event at Bondi Beach on December 14, 2025, where two gunmen opened fire on the crowd, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more. One of those killed was retired police officer and photographer Peter Meagher, 61.

Police allege the accused, who was also working as a photographer at the event, took Mr Meagher’s camera equipment in the aftermath of the shooting before pawning it shortly afterwards. Police sources have confirmed the 35-year-old allegedly pawned Mr Meagher’s camera for $800.

Meagher’s widow Virginia in March issued a plea on social media for any information about the missing camera.

Homicide Squad detectives arrested the man on Wednesday after executing a search warrant at a home in Sydney’s north-west.

According to police, officers seized a camera, electronic devices, handcuffs and a small amount of white crystal substance during the search, and an SD card containing photos the 61-year-old took at the Bondi Beach Chanukah by the Sea event before he was killed. The recovered camera is believed to belong to Mr Meagher.

The man was taken to Blacktown Police Station and charged with larceny of property valued at more than $2000, dealing with proceeds of crime, giving false or misleading information, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Blacktown Local Court on June 22.

NSW Police said the investigation was led by Homicide Squad detectives attached to Strike Force Pearl, which was established following the Bondi Beach attack.

Mr Meagher, described in reports as a retired NSW Police detective and long-time photographer, was among those attending the community Hanukkah celebration when the attack occurred.
